MeitY introduces newer initiatives to increase IPv6 adoption in India

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has launched three new initiatives--IP Guru, NIXI Academy, and NIXI-IP-Index to help Indian entities migrate and adopt Internet Protocol version IPv6. These initiatives were launched by Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

For this initiative, MeitY has joined hands with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), and the community to promote IPv6, and comprises members from government and private organizations.

The group will hire an agency that will work with end customers to provide them with the necessary technical support to adopt IPv6. This expert group will additionally guide all such Indian entities and help in increasing IPv6 adoption. The NIXI Academy, on the other hand, is focused on providing education about technologies like IPv6 to people from technical/non-technical backgrounds.

Additionally, the platform helps operators and educators understand best practices for networking, principles, and related techniques; efficient management of Internet resources; and use of suitable Internet technologies effectively.

The academy comprises an IPv6 training portal that seeks to provide mass training to the community. The successful candidate (after passing the examination) can earn a certification from NIXI to increase their employability.

The NIXI-IP-Index is an IPv6 index portal for the internet community and showcases the IPv6 adoption rate in India and across the world. It can be used to compare the IPv6 Indian adoption rate with other economies in the world. NIXI plans to implement features such as web adoption in IPv6, IPv6 traffic, etc. in the coming days to the portal.
