Google's upcoming AI chatbot Gemini launch delayed
By MYBRANDBOOK
Following the launch of Bard earlier this year, Google is gearing up to launch its new large language model, Gemini. However, the launch of Gemini, which was supposed to happen this week, has now been delayed. Google has discreetly postponed the public introduction of Gemini to January. This move comes after the company identified issues with the AI's reliability in handling certain non-English queries.
Emphasizing the significance of worldwide language support, CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted in November the company's commitment to promptly releasing Gemini 1.0 and ensuring its competitiveness.
Despite facing several challenges with language, insiders have indicated that Gemini has, in certain aspects, met or exceeded the standards set by GPT-4. Notably, Gemini aims to surpass OpenAI's model by showcasing its advanced capabilities in both text and image generation.
During I/O 2023, Google unveiled Gemini's remarkable multimodal capabilities, distinguishing it from previous models. This AI model adeptly comprehends both text and images while seamlessly incorporating various tools and APIs.
Sissie Hsiao, Google's Vice President and Manager of Bard and Google Assistant, demonstrated Gemini's proficiency by stating that it could generate images illustrating the steps to ice a three-layer cake when prompted.
Currently, Google is reportedly in the process of "finalizing the primary, largest version of Gemini."
Gemini can handle multiple types of data. It is said to possess the capability to comprehend and generate text, images, and other forms of content, such as websites, based on sketches or written descriptions. The AI model reportedly exhibits superior performance compared to OpenAI's GPT-4, leveraging significantly greater computing power than its rival.
Although Google already has a generative AI model, Bard, consumer awareness currently favors ChatGPT. Analysts suggest that this dynamic might shift once Gemini is officially launched.
