Sony’s PlayStation acquiring headphone-maker Audeze
By MYBRANDBOOK
Sony Interactive Entertainment, the division in charge of PlayStation is acquiring high-end headphones maker Audeze to enhance the PlayStation game audio experience. PlayStation’s acquisition of Audeze will not bring any platform limitations. The two companies said that Audeze will continue to create gaming headphones for all the platforms, though the headphone-maker will benefit from being a part of the PlayStation ecosystem.
Despite the acquisition, the Audeze brand will continue to operate, and the company will maintain its offices in Orange County, s confirmed by Sony.
No financial details of the deal, however, have been revealed under the contractual obligations.
“Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to scale our business, as we continue with our mission to deliver best-in-class headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles and gamers,” says CEO Sankar Thiagasamudram. “We are also looking forward to contributing to Sony Interactive’s efforts to take PlayStation audio experiences to the next level.”
“Audeze is a premier brand for headphones, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation players,” says SIE SVP Hideaki Nishino. “We are excited to bring Audeze’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset.”
Sony highlights Audeze's patented technologies and unique planar magnetic drivers, and the same has made it to Sony’s recently announced PlayStation headphones, including the Pulse Explore earbuds and Pulse Elite headset. This indicates that the deal has been in the works for a while.
