Sandhya Theatre stampede case: Allu Arjun sent to 14-day judicial custody

Allu Arjun has been sent to 14 days of custody in connection with the death of a woman in a stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad.

The star of Pushpa 2 had earlier approached the Telangana High Court seeking the quashing of the criminal case filed against him in connection with the death of a woman in a stampede at the Hyderabad theatre during the release of his blockbuster film.

The actor was taken into police custody on December 13.

However, in the latest development, the victim’s husband, who had filed the case, has said that he is ready to withdraw the case.

"I am ready to withdraw the case. I was not aware of the arrest and Allu Arjun has nothing to do with the stampede in which my wife passed away," said Revathi’s husband, Bhaskar.

According to reports, Justice Sridevi of the Telangana High Court stated that the lunch motion would only be considered after 4 pm on Friday.

The Public Prosecutor had strongly objected to the motion being heard between 1 pm and 1:30 pm, pointing out that lunch motions are typically considered in the morning. He argued that since the lunch motions of other petitioners were not taken up at this time, Allu Arjun's motion should not be treated as an exception.

The 35-year-old victim, Revathi tragically lost her life on the night of December 4 after a massive crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of actor Allu Arjun outside Hyderabad’s Sandhya theatre. Her eight-year-old son was also critically injured during the incident.

Following the tragedy, the city police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by the family of the deceased, Revathi.
