BSNL cautions subscribers regarding rising cybercrime

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., the state owned telecom service provider has cautioned subscribers about the fake customer care numbers that cyber criminals were using to siphon off money.

Jamshedpur is observing an increase in cybercrimes. Fraudsters are adopting new ways and techniques of cybercrimes.

Talking to a news source, General Manager of Jamshedpur Secondary Switching Area Sanjeev Verma said, "Recently few cases have come to light that cyber thugs are sending messages to our subscribers from two personal numbers - 08697937328 and 9883547802 saying their SIM card would be blocked within 24 hours as the service has been expired."

He also said that two numbers mentioned as customer care numbers are false and have no connection with BSNL.

"Sometimes cyber frauds call customers from personal mobile numbers for completing the KYC verification at the earliest to keep their mobile number active otherwise their mobile number would get deactivated," he added.

He has requested to BSNL subscribers not to share any personal details like Aadhaar number, bank card details and not to install any app.

"By installing apps, customers lose control over their mobile phones to cyber frauds. So subscribers are advised not to respond to these messages, never install any app and not to transfer any money, "he said adding that by transferring amount after installing apps like team viewer, quick support etc customers compromise their personal data.

The senior BSNL official re-iterated that the telecom major never asks its subscribers for any Aadhaar number and other personal details over call or messages.

BSNL has two customer care numbers -18001801503 or 1503.
