Reliance Jio is geared to Disrupt the Industry with Jio Fibre
By MYBRANDBOOK
At Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)'s 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) Mukesh D Ambani has announced that Reliance Jio is set to kick off the commercial launch of Jio Fiber in India on September 5. The beta trials of the broadband access were started back in August last year.
Users to get free voice calls, bundled OTT streaming, new movies on the day of release, after disrupting the mobile services segment. However, it is not clear on what one can get with investing just Rs.700 a month and what all one can expect by investing Rs. 10,000 per month. From the beta trail started from last year and had received interest from 15 million users. Services were started on a trial basis in five lakh homes.
The service packs landline telephony, multi-party video conferencing, home security, smart home solutions, gaming, JioTV and TV channels. We can also predict in the coming days. Sources said, Jio could give a bundle offer with premium Mobile Phones including IPhone and Samsung etc.
Ambani during his presentation at the meeting suggested that while the offering was initially known as Jio GigaFiberthat was supposed to bring default 1Gbps broadband access to consumers, it would now be available as Jio Fiber. The average fixed line download speed in the US is around 90Mbps, but under the Jio Fiber plan the most basic plan starts with 100Mbps speed. However, he did mention that there will be plans up to 1Gbps or 1000Mbps as well.
Last year, Jio has unveiled a plan to expand its optical fibre network simultaneously across 1,100 cities. Reliance Jio has also picked up majority stake in Den and Hathway Cable to speed up the broadband roll out. Now Jio is expecting ₹20,000-crore revenue from its IoT platform, which will be launched from January 2020.
Jio Fiber pricing
The Jio Fiber plans will be priced between Rs. 700 and Rs. 10,000 per month to make it accessible to all Indian home.
Ambani points out that customers should pay either for voice or data, not both. With this he has announced that voice calls from home to any Indian operator will be free forever. Jio Home Phone will be the fixed-line service available alongside high-speed broadband service to enable international calling with the "lowest fixed-line rates". Existing Jio GigaFiber and new Jio Fiber customers would be able to get voice calling support through the new service. Further, the default tariffs of Jio Home Phone are touted to be one-fifth to one-tenth of existing industry tariffs. Customers will also get a dedicated unlimited international calling pack at Rs. 500 per month to make calls in the US and Canada.
Bundled OTT apps subscription
Jio Fiber customers are set to receive bundled subscriptions to "most leading premium OTT applications", Mukesh Ambani has announced at the AGM. The company is also set to bring a concept of offering new movies, called Jio First-Day-First-Show.
Jio First-Day-First-Show service
"Premium Jio Fiber customers will be able to watch movies in their living rooms the same day these movies released in theatres," said Ambani during his presentation. Reliance Jio is set to launch the Jio First-Day-First-Show service in the middle of 2020. With this the Film industries are also going to disrupt.
Jio Postpaid Plus
Jio Fiber customers will get access to Jio Postpaid Plus plans, to deliver platinum grade service and product experience. This includes a priority SIM-setup and MNP service at home. It will provide seamless data and voice connectivity everywhere. It will also include "unprecedented Family plans", affordable international roaming, and phone upgrades at "preferential rates". Details about the tariffs under the Jio Postpaid Plus service will be available on September 5.
Jio Fiber welcome offer
To attract new customers, a Jio Fiber Welcome Offer will be available. Reliance Jio is also set to offer an HD LED TV or 4K TV alongside a 4K set-top box for customers opting for an annual plan called Jio Forever Plan. However, details about the plan are yet to be revealed.
