We are spending roughly 4.5% of revenues on R&D

There are lots of conversations happening these days around edge , core to cloud, you know, and if you just step back and think about it at its simplest form, right? edge computing, as we tend to talk about these days is around how do you put compute and storage capability next to where data is getting created? Right. And it's a pretty simplistic definition, right, essentially, is how we think about it and particularly in the front end, if you think about where the world is headed with the the 5G innovation that's happening, the autonomous cars, the automated factories, you know, there is a need for edge computing, edge storage that drives that and sort of overcomes that latency issue that we have and so we think about it as a pretty interesting opportunity for us, given our breadth and depth of capabilities, and both hardware and software, not that we're building sensors. In ans interaction with J J davis,Sr. V.P,Global Communications,Dell Technologiesand Tom Sweet,Chief Financial Officer,Dell Technologies.

Since, the sensors approach essentially zero and the data creation, there continues to grow astronomically. You know, there's a need to do something with that data, as we all know and so that's where we think we can play a role around storage and compute capability, whether it's, you know, 5G towers with a mini data center in at that at the base, and there's going to be lots of towers like that, or how do you go about, you know, the storage capability that an autonomous vehicle is going to need and the compute capability.

All those are areas that we're exploring. And so we're optimistic and pretty excited about what the future holds and it's going to evolve in it's early innings and but there's clearly a need out there. Secondly, Tom Said, when we think about the world today, which multi cloud environment, I saw something like 70% of customers are running for, you know, multiple clouds, whether it's SAS or private clouds, or public clouds and the Manage ability of workloads across that as, you know, a challenge at this point.

we are US company clearly right now spending roughly 4.5% of revenues on R&D and when we look at the revenue, USD 91.3 billion, that's a non-gap revenue to the accounting team keeps telling me to say non gap here, but you know, half of that's outside of the US. So roughly half of our business globally, you know, is outside of the US, emerging countries, emerging markets are clear focus for us. Tom said.

We are continuing to invest to look at and get access to innovative technologies, and whether it's next generation storage capability, AI and machine learning capabilities. We have paid off roughly $14.6 billion in debt since the acquisition of EMC, we ultimately put a little bit of debt back on the balance sheet at the end of the year to get the class fee transaction done.

Michael thinking about opportunities for all from the very first day he started the company and he is deeply involved in this topic personally allows us to be on that path.
