NVIDIA is ready for the computers of tomorrow with Mellanox

The world is moving faster towards Parallel computing - the type of computing where many calculations or the execution of processes are carried out, where large problems can be divided into smaller ones, which can then be solved at the same time, with the support of high-performance computing, where the need of GPU will come in place for accelerating the computing the project. Parallel computing has become the dominant paradigm in computer architecture, mainly in the form of multi-core processors.

NVIDIA is getting ready for inventing computers of tomorrow. With HPC and AI markets giving NVIDIA a taste for building systems, it looks like the company wants to control more of the hardware and systems software stack with the investment of $6.9 billion – in cash to acquire high-end networking equipment provider and long-time partner Mellanox Technologies. NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform with Mellanox’s accelerated networking platform will create next-generation datacenter-scale computing solutions.

When we see the history, Intel is enjoying in CPU compute and NVIDIA is enjoying in GPU compute that fetched them both a comfortable growth position. Jensen Huang ,Co-founder & CEO, NVIDIA understands that networking, more than compute, is the future of the datacenter, which will move into high performance computing technologies.

The trend of the industry shows that datacenters are the most important computers in the world today, and that in the future, as workloads continue to change – which is really triggered by artificial intelligence and data analytics – that future datacenters of all kinds will be built like high performance computers. With the combination of two leaders in high performance computing technologies, the focus will move towards accelerated computing for high performance computing. Mellanox will bring the competency of networking and storage for high performance computing.

Many of the world’s top cloud service providers also use both NVIDIA GPUs and Mellanox interconnects. NVIDIA and Mellanox share a common performance-centric culture that will enable seamless integration. Once the combination is complete, NVIDIA intends to continue investing in local excellence and talent in Israel.

The emergence of artificial intelligence and machine learning and data analytics has put so much load on the datacenters. The data size and the compute size is so great that it doesn’t fit on one computer. To address the opportunity, both the companies into high performance computing (HPC), NVIDIA’s computing platform and Mellanox’s interconnects power over 250 of the world’s TOP 500 supercomputers and have as customers every major cloud service provider and computer maker.

The data and compute intensity of modern workloads in AI, scientific computing and data analytics is growing exponentially and has put enormous performance demands on hyperscale and enterprise datacenters. At the same time, the technology is leading to the next level to accelerate computing. Going forward parallel computing will play the major role for disrupting the business into data-center and cloud space.

Future Datacenters will be architected as giant compute engines with tens of thousands of compute nodes, designed holistically, which will be with high-performance interconnect technology, Mellanox’s InfiniBand interconnect technology, along with high-speed Ethernet products, accepted in many of the supercomputing projects and hyperscale datacenters.

NVIDIA has seen a dip into the crypto segment in the end of Q1 2019 , which has seen a inventory headwinds caused by slowing cryptocurrency mining hardware demands. At the same time the gaming market has shown a positive growth, and the market is expected to reach $180 billion by 2025, with its strong focused five different verticals, including datacenter market, autonomous driving, cryptocurrency, graphics card manufacturers and the gaming market that makes up around 55% of its overall revenue of NVIDIA.
