PM Modi on a two-nation tour, kicks off with AI Summit in Paris

His visit aims to strengthen India-France ties, featuring high-level talks with President Macron on defence, trade, and technology, while co-chairing the AI Action Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paris on Monday (February 10) to co-chair the AI Action Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit, which brings together global leaders to discuss the future of artificial intelligence, marks the first leg of Modi’s two-nation tour. After his visit to France, PM Modi will head to the United States for an important meeting with President Donald Trump.

Upon his arrival, PM Modi was warmly greeted by President Macron at a welcome dinner. Sharing a moment on social media, Modi posted, “Delighted to meet my friend, President Macron in Paris.” In addition to his meeting with Macron, PM Modi also interacted with newly elected US Vice President JD Vance, who is attending the summit as well. The dinner highlighted the importance of international cooperation on AI and technology, key areas of focus for both nations.

Bilateral talks and key diplomatic engagements in France

PM Modi’s visit will focus on strengthening the India-France relationship, with several high-level discussions planned. Over the next three days, he will co-chair the AI Action Summit and engage in talks with President Macron on various strategic matters, including defence, trade, and technology.

The two leaders will also discuss the 2047 Horizon Roadmap, which outlines the vision for India-France relations over the next two decades. Additionally, PM Modi will address business leaders at the India-France CEO’s Forum, further reinforcing the economic ties between the two countries.

A key highlight of PM Modi’s France visit will be the inauguration of the newest Consulate General of India in Marseille. Modi and Macron are also scheduled to pay their respects to the Indian soldiers who fought in World War I, with a visit to the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille. The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and the visit underscores the shared history between India and France.

A warm welcome from the Indian diaspora

Before diving into official engagements, PM Modi met with the Indian diaspora in Paris, receiving a grand welcome. Despite the chilly weather, the community turned out in full force to show their affection for the Prime Minister.

Modi posted pictures of the event, expressing his gratitude: “A memorable welcome in Paris! The cold weather didn’t deter the Indian community from showing their affection this evening. Grateful to our diaspora and proud of them for their accomplishments!”

Ahead to the US visit

After concluding his visit to France, PM Modi will travel to the United States on February 12, where he will meet with President Donald Trump. This will be the first meeting between the two leaders since Trump’s second term began.

The meeting is expected to focus on enhancing the India-US strategic partnership, with discussions on defence, technology, trade, and global issues. Modi’s visit to the US comes after his June 2017 visit to Washington, D.C., and his hosting of Trump for a state visit to India in February 2020.

This diplomatic tour highlights India’s increasing global influence and its efforts to strengthen ties with major powers in the fields of technology, defence, and international cooperation.
