This amendment is expected to foster innovation, streamline service delivery, and encourage the development of digital solutions utilizing Aadhaar authentication
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially notified the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025 under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016. This amendment aims to enhance transparency, inclusivity, and governance, marking a significant step toward improving the delivery of services across sectors.
The amendment expands the scope of Aadhaar authentication to include both government and non-government entities. It allows these entities to use Aadhaar for service delivery in areas such as e-commerce, travel, tourism, hospitality, healthcare, and more. By enabling seamless access to a broader range of services, this initiative is designed to improve ease of living for residents and enhance their access to essential services. The move is expected to promote good governance by ensuring trusted transactions and reducing barriers to service access.

Entities interested in using Aadhaar authentication will be required to apply through the designated portal, submitting their intended requirements to the relevant ministry or department of the Central or State Government. These applications will be reviewed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), with MeitY issuing final approval based on UIDAI’s recommendations. After receiving approval, the concerned ministry will notify the entity, allowing them to implement Aadhaar authentication for their services.
This amendment is expected to foster innovation, streamline service delivery, and encourage the development of digital solutions utilizing Aadhaar authentication. It strengthens collaboration between the government and private entities, ultimately providing better governance solutions and more efficient, accessible services for the public.
