Microsoft Teams Avatars are rolling out for public preview

Microsoft that announced in 2021 that it will bring 3D avatars to Teams had in October of 2022 opened the Private Preview Mesh avatar. The company has now announced that Avatars for Microsoft Teams are beginning to roll out for public preview. These avatars are aimed at helping people represent themselves in meetings at times when they don’t want to turn their webcam on.
The company said in a blogpost, "Avatars for Microsoft Teams offers an alternative to the current binary option of video or no video. Avatars for Teams gives you that much-needed camera break, while still allowing you to collaborate effectively."
The tech giant has added a new lighting system to the new public preview version which improves performance and enhances the appearance of avatar skin and hair. The new version will include a multitude of new customisation options, like bindis and hearing aids. If the users react using the Teams emoji reactions their avatar will mimic that reaction with their body. For instance, if they use the raised hand reaction, their avatar will also raise their hand.
