Mumbai Police arrests engineering student from Bengaluru

The Mumbai police has arrested a 21-year-old Bengaluru student who was impeded, in connection with the ‘Bulli Bai’ application, a GitHub app that listed photos of hundreds of Muslim women including the photos of celebrities, journalists and social media influencers on sale.

A Mumbai police official confirmed that the student has been identified as Vishal Kumar Jha, who is a second-year engineering student studying in Bengaluru. The suspect will be brought to Mumbai for questioning. Police officials said the 21-year-old had posted vulgar comments on the Muslim women after their pictures were posted on the Bulli Bai app.

The official also said that the cyber cell has also detained one more person in connection with the case, a woman from Uttarakhand, who is believed to be the main accused in the case.

While there was no actual ‘auction’ or ‘sale’, the purpose of the app was to humiliate and intimidate the targeted women, many of whom are active social media users. A team of the Mumbai cyber police arrested Shweta Singh in Uttarakhand who was operating multiple accounts related to the app.
