Ericsson has urged the Indian government to incentivise investments in India's telecom infrastructure sector, speed up spectrum availability and make spectrum prices affordable. Nunzio Mirtillo, Head of Market Area South East Asia, Oceania and India, at Ericsson speaks in the India Mobile Congress Virtual summit.
“Networks are as important to countries as roads and electric grids and airports. I strongly encourage India to prioritize actions to incentivize investments in digital infrastructure, including making spectrum more affordable and speeding up the availability of spectrum,” said Nunzio Mirtillo, Head of Market Area South East Asia, Oceania and India, at Ericsson.
“An encouraging policy framework will provide the enabling environment to help the Indian service providers make a seamless switch from 4G to 5G and help realize the ‘Digital India‘ vision,” he said at the 4th edition of international digital technologies forum, the India Mobile Congress being held virtually this year.
Mirtillo further said that, Ericsson manufactures its 4G and 5G radio equipment in its Pune factory in Maharashtra for the domestic market and exports as well and is keen to serve its 5G customers in India. The pandemic has made positive outcomes for broadband and connectivity in India.
“4G remains the dominant technology in 2020 accounting for 63% of mobile subscriptions. India today has the highest average traffic per smartphone user per month at 15.7GB per month,” he said.
