People of Jammu and Kashmir ranks the highest when it comes to availing the Tele-Law facility, the free legal aid over telephone, across all common service centers (CSC).
So far, 33135 cases have been registered in Jammu and Kashmir.
Maximal registrations have been reported from Assam, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya and Bihar. The legal aid service has recently crossed the mark of 1,50,000 cases registered for advice in Tele- Law.
Till January this year, it has resulted in enabling legal advice to 67028 beneficiaries that include 12,119 (female), 8,371(OBC), 5,043(SC) and 2,198 (ST).
“We hope that from government’s various services and initiatives, people are now feeling inclusive and empowered. Our partnership with CSC SPV will strengthen marginalized communities and citizens residing in rural areas by making legal aid accessible to them. The initiative taken two years back are now fulfilling two main agendas, one is providing legal services to the interiors of the country and second is intensifying the government’s vision of Digital India”, Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice, Alok Srivastava said.
“Majority of Indians live in rural areas, where social and economic barriers play an important role in keeping them illiterate. With CSCs being the single window service provider for Tele-Law in the country, it is quite sure that it will cater to the different sections of the society. CSCs is a classical bridge between the people and the services and plays a pivotal role in the delivery of these services,” said Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT GopalaKrishnan S.
“We have already registered 1, 50,000 cases for advice in Tele- Law. The legal service will gradually register more number of cases by providing awareness about citizens’ legal rights and duties and promote access to recourse among them,” CSC e-Governance Services India CEO Dinesh Tyagi said.
“With Tele-Law service and its benefits, people are now feeling privileged. Our main motive is to empower people by popularizing technology to a level that it becomes an instrument of change”, Tyagi added.
Through Tele-Law, people get legal information and advice through video-conferencing or phone with the use of communications and information technology. Under the service, legal assistance is provided to citizens visiting the CSCs by a panel of lawyers stationed at CSC state offices and State Legal Services Authorities.
