Government is eyeing for the growth of the electronics and IT manufacturing in India: MAIT

Manufacturers Association of Information Technology (MAIT) along with its industry representatives held a meeting today with Ravi Shankar Prasad,Minister of Electronics and Information Technology and other senior Government officials to discuss the way forward on the growth of the electronics and IT manufacturing industry in India. The meeting, held in Vigyan Bhavan was attended by several MAIT members including HP, Dell , Lenovo , Netweb Technologies, CISCO, Rosenberger and many more.

 

Speaking about the meeting, Nitin Kunkolienker, President, MAIT said, “We have been working closely with the ministry to remove any bottlenecks in the growth path of the industry so that electronics and IT manufacturing can flourish in the country. We have had a very promising discussion with Hon’ble Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad which has resulted in specific action points, in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative which can help in significantly strengthening the sector.”

 

Nitin Kunkolienker, in his discussion with the Hon’ble Minister highlighted the need for creation of a component manufacturing hub in India which needs to be promoted aggressively by incentivization by the Government. He further added that India also has an opportunity of becoming the prime destination of Electronics Services for the world. Talking about PCs, Nitin said that we should take immediate steps to build an ecosystem allowing us to benefit from the large under-utilized manufacturing capacity to encourage domestic manufacturing.

 

During the meeting, MAIT had put forth several recommendations in-line with the industry’s expectations that aim to help the industry develop an export-led manufacturing ecosystem and gain global importance for the same. The recommendations included Offering production linked export incentive, Leveraging India’s geo-political influence & FTA influence with countries to accept BIS & TEC standards as sufficient to access their markets, and Identification of sub-sectors where India should lead the development of standards like 5G, Medical Electronics, Cyber Security and Data Com.
