Next generation Technology by Telcos

Telecom companies are the highway to drive any applications you can name it. Cities in the past were built on riverbanks. They are now built along highways. But in the future, they will be built based on availability of optical fiber networks and next-generation infrastructure. Smart city has created a new business opportunity for Telecom companies since the connectivity is the backbone for driving technology.

Secondly, it is fact that smart city is not possible without smart mobility and Broadband, which is basic that is internet access connection, has today become an indispensable tool for business users and consumers alike and the growing popularity of connected devices will enhance the desirability of cloud-based data storage, because it enables users to access their data from any device and synchronize data across multiple devices.

Telco’s and smart city deployments are positioned to be mutually beneficial to each other. The telecom sector plays a crucial role in establishing modern communication solutions and infrastructure to transform a city into a Smart City. As the telecom industry owns wired and wireless infrastructure, it also enjoys a key position in the value chain and Telcos have the power to boost connectivity via Voice, SMS & Data, to create an ecosystem that is more cohesive and intelligent.

The essence of a smart city is connectivity, which is fast, easy and always on. Be it lighting, safety of traffic on the roads, security of citizens by CCTVs, connecting buyers to market, fulfilling needs of the modern population, healthcare and related services, it requires robust telecom backbone.

With the recent Ericsson and Bharti Infratel have bagged Bhopal smart city project from Bhopal Smart City Development Corp. Ltd. (BSCDCL) to deploy smart poles in the city at an investment of Rs690 crore, where Ericsson and Bharti Infratel will install 400 smart poles across the city, which will be equipped with environment sensors, EV Charging Points, surveillance cameras, digital signage system and WiFi access points is the right example of things moving in the right director.

Lastly, telcom’s can add intelligence to a city’s infrastructure, buildings, energy, environment and also drive the Internet of Everything wave because of their capability in networks, systems, and they’ve got lots of interesting data like billing and payment systems and the most interesting thing is remotest areas (last mile connectivity), thus become the lifeline of a City that is forward facing towards becoming a smart city.
