OpenAI to bring out its GPT Store in early 2024

Microsoft-backed AI startup OpenAI during its first ever Devday developer conference in November revealed its plans to roll out a GPT store. The company has confirmed that the launch of the GPT store will happen sometime in early 2024. The GPT store will be a marketplace where users of OpenAI’s GPT builders can sell and share the GPTs they have built.

The delay comes against the backdrop of the startup's surprise ouster of its CEO Sam Altman and his subsequent reinstatment following threats by employees to quit.

The GPTs are early versions of AI assistants that perform real-world tasks such as booking flights on behalf of a user. It is also expected to allow users to share their GPTs and earn money based on the number of users.

In an email that OpenAI has sent to people who signed up for its GPT builder, the company said that “unexpected things” that have been keeping the company “busy” has pushed back the GPT store rollout. The company noted that it had planned to release the store in December. In the conference, OpenAI said the store would launch it later that month. However, that didn’t happen and the launch has been further delayed.
