Disney to officially roll out its metaverse platform in India

Media behemoth, Disney has revealed that it will officially roll out Starverse, its metaverse platform, in India. The move has finally been announced after months of testing the proof of concept.
Starverse’s launch will reportedly take place around the time of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.
Reports suggest that Disney’s Starverse will enable an immersive 3D experience for sports fans.
Sanjog Gupta, the Head of Sports, Star & Disney India, said, “Our metaverse is called the Starverse and the first iteration of this is an immersive 3D ecosystem for the sports fan. The sports genre organically lends itself to a multi-platform, multi-modal, and communal experience."
He further added, “This will be the first time we will allow users at scale to enter the Starverse. We wanted to rollout the final version after testing features and understanding user behaviour in a 3D ecosystem,"
This platform, instead of a mobile application, can be accessed on the phone web as the former will restrict the experience to only those who have downloaded the app. This metaverse platform, according to Sanjog Gupta, will be an "always-on" experience for users, as new and innovative features will be added to Starverse throughout the year. “In fact, this would be the key differentiator between Starverse and other metaverse initiatives in the country,” he said.
The media giant has collaborated with multiple agencies to design the tech backend, 3D models, and environment and gamification part of Starverse, as per reports.
With metaverse becoming a buzzword these days, several big companies are placing significant bets on metaverse initiatives, with companies like Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, etc., expanding their presence in this new-age space.
