FaceOff of Google Ads Platform to Ransomware attacks

There are widespread malvertising campaigns by initial access broker DEV-0569 that exploit Google Ads are underway, facilitating malware distribution, password theft, and network breaches. Noted Vulnerability expert Will Dormann have sais on how Google search results have become a hotbed of malicious advertisements pushing malware.

 

Users gets surprised after the news of Ransomware access brokers use Google ads to breach your network. Google Ads invites are being abused to deliver email messages promoting spam and sex websites to users who are otherwise not necessarily using Google advertising platforms.

 

The Google Ads platform allows advertisers to create advertising campaigns on publisher partner's web sites and in Google search results. Resulted, Users around the world are reporting receiving emails from authentic Google Ads accounts that are catching their attention.

 

To be noted, Google previously noted its "robust policies" against ads masquerading as other brands. These ads pretend to be websites for popular software programs, like LightShot, Rufus, 7-Zip, FileZilla, LibreOffice, AnyDesk, Awesome Miner, TradingView, WinRAR, and VLC.

 

These bogus invite emails, sent from Google's servers entice users to visit spam links contained in the email message. Nearly 64,000 individuals have been victimized by the attack.

 

The list of malware installed in these campaigns so far includes RedLine Stealer, Gozi/Ursnif, Vidar, and potentially, Cobalt Strike and ransomware. While there appear to be many threat actors abusing the Google Ads platform to distribute malware, two particular campaigns stand out, as their infrastructure was previously associated with ransomware attacks.
