DOT tests 5G sites for data speeds in Ahmedabad

The department of telecommunications initiated the testing of 28 5G cells of a mobile service provider at 13 locations in the Prahladnagar area in Ahmedabad.

The DoT officials said the instruments installed for 5G technology at the Prahladnagar sites were compact single-boxes with zero footprint, that can be installed even on 10m or 15m poles, to provide localized 5G coverage.

A press release from the DoT said that its Gujarat team had recorded a peak data download speed of 4 Gbps in February for a 5G test site at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, installed by another private mobile service provider.

A data download speed of 1.5 gigabits per second (Gbps) was recorded by DoT officials. The DoT inspection team included the head of DoT Gujarat, Gunjan Dave, and DoT Gujarat Director Sumit Mishra.

The testing of the Prahladnagar site was carried out according to standards laid by the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of DoT which frames specifications of common standards for telecom network equipment and services.
