Alka Mittal becomes the first woman CMD of ONGC

Energy major ONGC’s Director HR Alka Mittal has become the first woman to head the company. Mittal is the senior-most director of ONGC and has been given the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director of the company.

 

She will hold the post for six months or until a regular appointment for the position is announced. Before Mittal, Subhash Kumar, former director (finance) was given the additional charge of the post previous year. Kumar too retired in December, leaving the top position vacant for a couple of days.

 

Before joining as Director HR, Mittal held the charge of Chief Skill Development of the company, where she organised the activities and brought consistency in the working of the skill development centres of ONGC. She has also implemented the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) in ONGC engaging more than 5,000 apprentices across all work centres.

 

ONGC will now have two full-time woman directors after government recruiter Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) selected Pomila Jaspal for the post of Director (Finance). Jaspal is currently Director (Finance) in ONGC's subsidiary, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL).
