IBM threatens to suspend its employees if not vaccinated
By MYBRANDBOOK
The world is finally opening up after a very long lull of almost 1.5 years. But getting back to business is coming with many conditions for everyone. Various organizations are already making efforts to welcome back their employees while also rearranging the office places so that there is minimum possibility of Covid infections inside the premises. Along with that, corporations are incentivizing their employees to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.
Some organizations like IBM are even going a step further by resorting to the threat of suspension if employees are not fully vaccinated.
International Business Machines (IBM) Corp. has announced that all of its U.S.-based employees must be vaccinated by Dec. 8 or they will have to face an unpaid suspension. The New York-based company has informed its workers that as it’s a government contractor, it’s required to adhere to President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for federal contractors.
The new mandate, according to IBM, will apply to all U.S. employees regardless of where they work or how often they go into a company office. At the same time, it should be noted that IBM will also offer “limited” medical or religious exemptions.
A company spokeswoman said in a statement, “the decision was prompted by “the continued spread of Covid-19, local clinical conditions around IBM sites, and the reality that vaccines are readily available nationwide. As we’ve said throughout the pandemic, IBM’s health and safety practices are driven by science.”
IBM had in June asked its U.S. employees to return to the office by September but was then forced to shut down New York City locations amid rising Covid-19 cases in August.
However, with the current effort to get everyone vaccinated, IBM wants to see its offices buzzing with people again.
