Reliance Jio refuses BCCI's proposal to sponsor IPL 13

After VIVO pulled out their title sponsorship deal for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League [IPL], from BCCI, as per a report in a sports magazine, speculations have been rife as to which brand would step-up in the current situation.

The 13th edition of the cash-rich league is supposed to kickstart from September 19 and BCCI is not getting one serious party to bail them out of the current situation. Recently, speculations were rife that telecom giant Reliance Jio might enter into the scene to sponsor the 2020 edition.

But, according to a report, during the franchise call with IPL Governing Council, one of the franchise owners had asked a Mumbai Indians representative on the call about Jio’s interest in the sponsorship deal, to which the representative was quoted as saying ‘they are not exploring such association’, making things perfectly clear what their aspirations are.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] has sent SOS to the likes of Paytm [Indian cricket’s international and domestic tournaments title sponsor] and Byju [Kit Sponsor of Indian cricket currently] as none of the other brands are showing any interest in these economically distressed times.

”All of these companies are BCCI’s partners. They are Indian entities but we are little concerned about the very strong Anti-China undercurrent. We don’t want to speculate on how people will react if any of them come on board”, one of the BCCI officials was heard quoting .

The 13th edition of the IPL, which was originally supposed to take place between March 29-May 24, will now take place in the bio-secure environment of the United Arab Emirates between September 19-November 10.
