WhatsApp will stop support for Windows Phone on December 31, 2019

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has announced that it will end support for Windows Phone on December 31, 2019. This means that Windows Phone users will not be able to use WhatsApp in 2020. The announcement was made by the company in an official blog post recently.
To recall, WhatsApp ended support for Windows 7 in the year 2016. Its latest decision can be seen aligned with Microsoft's decision to end support for their operating system.
WhatsApp in the blog post also warned users that some of the social-messaging app’s platform may stop working on Windows devices. ‘Because we will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time’, it wrote.
In its updated FAQ page, WhatsApp listed operating systems whose users will no longer be able to create new accounts or reverify existing accounts. These included Android versions 2.3.7 and older until February 1, 2020, iOS 7 and older until February 1, 2020 and Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019.
In a related news, Facebook, at the F8 annual developers conference talked about ways to improve WhatsApp for businesses and is trying to change the experience while chatting with businesses. While we would have to wait to shop directly from WhatsApp, Facebook is now adding the option to allow business to add a product catalogue inside WhatsApp chats.
With the new feature, WhatsApp users will be able to see a business catalogue right within WhatsApp when chatting with a business. “With catalogs, businesses can showcase their goods so people can easily discover them,” claimed Facebook. It would be interesting to see how Facebook integrates this feature inside chats as we wait for it to arrive later this year.
