Alibaba Group keen on acquiring content platforms in India

In a move to increase its reach within India, Chinese online giant Alibaba Group is contemplating to acquire content platforms across print, video and web.

Overwhelmed by the growth in online usage, UCWeb, which is the mobile browser and content platform of Alibaba is already scouting for content acquisitions across various languages such as Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.

The company further said that it is keen on acquiring video content as the cheaper data tariffs and rising use of smartphones is giving a major push to the growth in this category.

Viewing user data privacy and security very seriously, the company says that most of its user information is stored within servers in India with only a small portion of it being carried to the servers in the US. Stating that protection of customer data is a top priority for Alibaba, the company said that it complies completely with the local laws.
