Delhi will Cover by 1.4 lakh CCTV Cameras

With a Public Sector Undertaking…..
winning the bid for installing 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras across the national capital, the wait seems to be finally over. The Delhi government had last year in November floated tenders for installation of around 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras across NCR, but the ambitious project saw several delays and setbacks.

The tender floated by the Delhi government is worth 4,004 crore. ESSI Security & Defence will be the system integrator in the project.

As per the plan, around 2,000 cameras would be installed in each of the 70 Assembly constituencies in the national capital, Jain said. According to an official, CCTV cameras would be installed in residential and commercial areas.

The official said that the locations for installing these cameras would be decided by the MLAs of the constituencies in consultation with local residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) and market bodies.

The plan, according to PWD Minister Satyendar Jain also states that the installation of these cameras will be completed within four to five months. PWD will be the nodal agency for the project.

As part of its poll promises in the run up to the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party had promised to install CCTV cameras across the national capital.
