Google Meet introduces new feature to enhance appearance on video calls

Subtle touch-up' and 'Smoothing' settings are available for online meetings with Google Meet's new portrait touch-up tool. This capability, which was limited to mobile devices, is now being rolled out to Google Meet's web version.

To turn on portrait touch-up click on the three dots located at the bottom of your self-view window after entering your meeting. After choosing "Effects," go to the "Appearance" tab. You may examine the result before you join the call by using the live preview and portrait touch-up options found there.

The new feature allows you to choose from two settings to achieve your desired look. "Subtle touch-up" provides very light adjustments, smoothing your complexion slightly and reducing the appearance of under-eye circles and puffiness. For a polished look, select "Smoothing," which offers a more noticeable effect on skin texture and reduces the appearance of those early morning shadows.

In a blog post Google mentioned, “This update has been highly requested by our users and we hope that by providing the ability to lightly enhance their appearance, they will feel more comfortable and confident with how they appear during video calls.”

This feature will be available to Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Teaching & Learning Upgrade, Google One and Google Workspace Individual users.
