Apple might source iPhone 16 batteries from India
By MYBRANDBOOK
Apple has told its parts suppliers that it wants to get batteries for the upcoming iPhone 16 from factories in India.
Earlier in November, it had been reported that Apple may initiate the assembling of the iPhone 17 in India, marking the first instance where the company will undertake iPhone development outside of China. Apple has traditionally entrusted this process solely to its Chinese manufacturing plants, but this may be changing.
Furthermore, the report underscores that around 12-14 percent of iPhones distributed globally are produced in India, as previously mentioned. The decision to manufacture the iPhone 17 in India is attributed to its "simplified design," aimed at minimizing potential complications during the development phase.
The report also stated that "Apple has the chance to strengthen its relationship with the Indian government. This strategic move is poised to positively influence the potential sales of iPhones and other Apple products in the Indian market, serving as a crucial factor in Apple's growth over the next decade."
The New Product Introduction (NPI) encompasses a thorough process that extends from the inception of a product to its mass-market production.
Lately, Apple has been actively engaged in diversifying its supply chain and relocating a substantial portion of its production beyond China.
Over the next 4-5 years, sources from the government have informed that Apple aims to amplify its production in India by more than five times, reaching approximately $40 billion (around 3.32 lakh crore). As per the report, the company has already surpassed the $7 billion production milestone in the previous fiscal year.
An official stated, "Apple is planning to escalate production in India to over $40 billion in the next 4-5 years. It has exceeded $7 billion in the last fiscal."
