WhatsApp working on ‘Companion Mode’ feature
By MYBRANDBOOK
WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature for Android known as companion mode. The feature allows users to add a secondary device as a companion for their primary phone with WhatsApp on it and access the same instant messaging account on different smartphones and tablets.
Users will not have to log out of one phone to use WhatsApp on another phone. They can use the same account on up to four multiple devices including a tablet. Furthermore, it is also reported that switching to WhatsApp’s Companion Mode will erase locally stored messages and data.
As of now, a user can operate the account on a smartphone and on a laptop/desktop simultaneously. However, users are not allowed to operate WhatsApp simultaneously on two mobile devices - like two different smartphones or one smartphone and one tablet or two tablets at once.
WhatsApp has now rolled out a particular version to some beta users as a trial where they are allowed to link their WhatsApp account to an Android tablet. Some beta users have been using WhatsApp on two mobile devices through the companion mode feature and now they can link their Android tablet to WhatsApp as well, thus using four devices at once including the laptop.
