The Delhi Metro has launched ‘High speed Free Wi-Fi’ facility at all on 50 stations of the Blue Line services.

With this Passengers can now use the service between Dwarka Sector 21 and Vaishali to Noida City Centre stations by searching for Wi-Fi options and selecting 'Oui DMRC Free Wifi' for one-time registration, Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC said in a formally launched the facility from the Rajiv Chowk Metro station.

With this facility, passengers will be able to use all standard Internet applications like e-mail, Facebook, Google, video chat as well as live streaming of cricket and football matches etc.

For providing free Wi-Fi facility, DMRC has tied up with a consortium led by Techno Sat Comm which is already providing the same facility on all six Metro stations of the Airport Express Line from last October 2016 and also running India’s first Wi-Fi on train service on the Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express. The facility will use the globally acclaimed “T-Track 2.0 Wave 2 Solution”, also used on high speed trains worldwide.

DMRC aims at launching the similar “Oui DMRC Free Wi-Fi” facility on all operational Metro stations and trains in a phased manner. It is expected that in another 6-9 months time, the same facility will be extended to all stations of Yellow Line (Line 2 i.e. HUDA City Centre to Samaypur Badli) .

Moving to another step towards complement Digital India, DMRC is now offering the facility to buy tokens and recharge their smart cards through their mobile banking application. DMRC also launched the cashless token sale/smart card recharge facility by using the Bharat Quick Response (QR) code displayed at the token counters and customer care centres of metro stations," said a DMRC statement.

The service can be availed through any bank application and has been provided by HDFC Bank. The passenger would have to select 'pay through QR' option in the app and then direct the smartphone camera-wise to the QR code displayed at the ticket counter. With this you would be able to enter the fare and make the payment.
