A solar gigafactory to be launched by Reliance Industries in FY25
By MYBRANDBOOK
In the fiscal year 2025, Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) will open its first giga-factory for solar energy, which will be a significant step towards renewable energy. The company's annual report states that the factory would become a comprehensive hub for solar component manufacture under Chairman Mukesh Ambani's direction. RIL's dedication to advance sustainable energy solutions is reflected in this initiative.
The upcoming giga-factory is designed to produce a wide range of solar components. These include photovoltaic (PV) modules, cells, wafers and ingots, polysilicon, and glass. The first phase of module and cell manufacturing is scheduled for commissioning in FY25. This initiative is part of RIL's broader strategy to position the green power segment as a key growth engine for the company.
RIL's annual report also confirmed that the solar panels produced in Jamnagar have received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. This endorsement assures the quality and reliability of their products. The company believes that within the next five to seven years, this sector could potentially outperform other business areas due to the growing focus on green energy.
In addition to the solar giga-factory, RIL plans to operationalize its new energy manufacturing facilities over the next 12 months. The company is also working toward developing a local supply chain for self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on imports. This strategic move is expected to strengthen India's position in the global green energy sector and contribute significantly to the country's sustainability goals.
