Amazon introduces Matter Casting for wireless stream video content

E-commerce major Amazon has introduced a new feature, called Matter Casting, which is similar to Apple's AirPlay feature. This wireless communication protocol allows streaming between Apple devices, while also working across different platforms. This tool will help iPhone as well as Android users to wirelessly stream video and other content to its TV hardware.

Matter Casting is part of a push by the company to create interoperable services.  This feature will work as an alternative to the proprietary technology developed by Apple and Google.

Matter Casting will also make it easier for iOS and Android phones to send video to Amazon devices. This includes devices like Fire TV boxes and sticks, as well as the Echo Show 15 smart displays.

Apple’s AirPlay and Google’s Cast have offered this capability for years. This feature allows users to stream videos from their phones on a larger screen (like TV). However these features don’t always work smoothly across platforms.

The new system will initially send content from Amazon’s Prime Video app to Echo Show devices. The company also said that Matter Casting will begin supporting Fire TV technology within “months”.

Amazon has also promised that the feature will work with a range of other video services, including Plex, Pluto TV, Sling TV, Starz and ZDF, by later this year,
