Google shuts down its AI-powered reservation tool
By MYBRANDBOOK
Google is shutting down Duplex on the Web, its AI-powered set of services that navigate sites to simplify the process of ordering food, purchasing movie tickets and more.
Google introduced Duplex on the Web in 2019, an outgrowth of its call-automating Duplex technology helps to automate things like buying movie tickets. It was later expanded to assist users with flight check-in, among other things. To start, it was focused on a couple of narrow use cases, including opening a movie theater chain's website to fill out all of the necessary information on a user's behalf -- pausing to prompt for choices like seats.
But Duplex on the Web later expanded to passwords, helping users automatically change passwords exposed in a data breach, as well as assist with checkout for e-commerce retailers, flight check-in for airline sites and automatic discount finding.
Duplex on the Web operates in two stages.
* Training: Duplex on the Web trains periodically against your site to enable Google Assistant to perform certain actions. To control how how Duplex on the Web crawls and analyzes your site, see Duplex on the Web user agent.
* Serving: Serving is controlled by a setting in Search Console. If Duplex on the Web is enabled for your site in Search Console, Google Assistant can offer to perform supported actions for site visitors. Duplex on the Web is enabled by default for all sites that fulfill the requirements described on this page. If Duplex on the Web is disabled for your property in Search Console, then Google Assistant will not be able to perform supported actions on your site.
Any automation features enabled by Duplex on the Web will no longer be supported. Duplex on the Web will shut down by the end of this year and will fully focus on making AI advancements to the Duplex voice technology that helps people every day. Duplex on the Web works globally in the Chrome Browser (Android & Desktop) as well as the Android Google Search App.
