Dunzo Drone May Come as Reality By April-End

In a recent development, aviation regulator DGCA has allowed Google funded, Dunzo and Bengaluru based Throttle to test their long-range drone flights for delivery solutions. The start-ups are yet to get the approval of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. DGCA may allow five more consortia to test the drone solutions.

 

Dunzo is an Indian company that provides delivery services in Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Pune, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad. The company also operates a Bike Taxi service in Gurgaon. It is headquartered in Bengaluru, India. In 2017, it was funded by Google.

 

Throttle Aerospace systems is looking to build drone solutions for medical supply and organ transportation. The company soon-to-kick-off experiment too would test for use cases in the medicine deleivery space. Says, Nagendra Kandasamy,Director,Throttle.

 

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given approval to drone maker Throttle Aerospace Systems and hyper delivery platform Dunzo consortium, to conduct experimental flights of remotely piloted aircraft or drones.

 

DGCA had recently invited all drone owners to voluntary register their drones with the department. All such voluntary registrations will get some level of policy relaxation. Post deadline, all drone sold within the country can’t be sold without obtaining the government registration number.

 

This is the first approval from India. The aim is to use this experimental drone flight pilot to frame regulations and policies around Beyond Visual Line Of Sight( BVLOS) category of unmanned vehicles, primarily drones.
