Reliance Retail Acquires Kelvinator India Rights to Expand in Consumer Durables

In a major move aimed at boosting its footprint in the consumer durables segment, Reliance Retail has acquired the rights to the iconic Kelvinator brand for the Indian market from Sweden-based Electrolux. Though the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, this strategic acquisition is expected to help Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL) significantly enhance its offerings in the home appliances space.

Kelvinator, a globally recognized name in electric refrigeration, was once a household brand in India, especially during the 1970s and 1980s. Famous for its catchy tagline “The Coolest One”, Kelvinator built a strong reputation for quality, performance, and durability. Over the decades, it became synonymous with trust and innovation in the Indian market. Now, Reliance Retail aims to revive and scale the brand through its expansive offline retail network of over 19,000 stores and growing digital commerce platforms.

In a press release, Reliance Retail stated, “Kelvinator, a brand synonymous with innovation and reliability for over a century, continues to be revered for its cutting-edge technology and exceptional value. With this acquisition, we aim to reintroduce the brand to Indian consumers with an enhanced and modern product range.”

This acquisition aligns with Reliance’s broader strategy of expanding its consumer electronics and appliances portfolio by introducing affordable, high-quality products under legacy and trusted brands. With demand for appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and kitchen gadgets growing in India’s urban and semi-urban areas, Reliance is well-positioned to capture a larger market share.

Additionally, the company’s digital-first approach and extensive supply chain capabilities will likely help in reviving Kelvinator’s brand value and ensuring widespread availability across the country.
