Menon, known for films like Salt N’ Pepper, Paleri Manikyam, Rathinirvedam, and Kalimannu, is interestingly contesting for AMMA’s presidency ahead of its August 15 election, adding a political angle to the ongoing case

The Ernakulam Central Police have filed a first information report (FIR) against Malayalam actor Shwetha Menon under Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, following allegations of profiting from roles in films containing obscene content.

The FIR was lodged after the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court directed police action in response to a complaint by Ernakulam resident Martin Menachery. Alongside the IT Act provision, the case also invokes Sections 3 and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

According to the complaint, Menon allegedly appeared in films with explicit or vulgar scenes for monetary gain. The content in question was purportedly circulated via social media and adult websites, allegedly to enhance popularity and generate income. The police stated that an investigation will be launched to verify the claims.

Section 67A of the IT Act pertains to the electronic publication or transmission of sexually explicit material, carrying serious legal consequences if proven.

Shwetha Menon, a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, has appeared in several well-known films, including Salt N’ Pepper, Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha, Rathinirvedam, and Kalimannu.

The development comes as Menon campaigns for the presidency of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). The election for the actors’ body’s executive committee is scheduled for August 15, adding a political dimension to the unfolding case.

Police officials said further steps will depend on the outcome of their inquiry into the allegations.
