Authorities seized 3,758 packed ink bottles, 6,080 ribbon cartridges, over 12,000 refilled ink bottles, thousands of packaging materials including holograms and QR labels, along with 12 fake 20-litre ink barrels and machinery used for counterfeiting
In a major enforcement action against counterfeit goods, Epson, in collaboration with Mumbai Police, conducted a raid on August 12 at Tilak Nagar, Chembur, leading to one of the largest seizures of fake Epson ink bottles and packaging materials in recent times.
Large haul of counterfeit supplies
The operation uncovered a massive stockpile of counterfeit Epson products, valued at approximately ₹44 lakh. Items seized included 3,758 packed ink bottles, 6,080 ribbon cartridges, and over 12,000 refilled ink bottles. Authorities also confiscated thousands of packaging components, including holograms, MRP stickers, shrink sleeves, QR code labels, and outer boxes.
In addition, 12 non-genuine 20-litre ink barrels and machinery used in the counterfeiting process—such as sealing machines, vacuum machines, and an inkjet printing machine—were recovered. A tempo truck used to transport the counterfeit supplies was also seized during the raid. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the illegal activity.
Safeguarding customers and partners
Counterfeit printing supplies are a growing concern, often resulting in poor performance, device damage, and safety risks for customers. For companies like Epson, counterfeiting undermines brand integrity, disrupts channel partnerships, and causes substantial financial loss.
An Epson India spokesperson highlighted the seriousness of the issue, stating, “Counterfeit products not only mislead customers but also erode the trust placed in our brand. This raid reflects the scale of the counterfeit trade in our industry and underscores Epson’s relentless commitment to fighting it. We appreciate the swift and decisive action by Mumbai Police and will continue working closely with authorities to eradicate such illegal activities.”
The company reaffirmed its commitment to strict enforcement of intellectual property rights and protecting its customers and partners. By partnering with law enforcement, Epson aims to reinforce its dealer ecosystem and ensure that only genuine, high-quality products reach end users.
This successful raid marks another step in Epson’s ongoing efforts to combat counterfeiting in India, sending a strong message to counterfeit networks that such illegal activities will face strict consequences.
