The Central government is looking to build on the recent privatisation momentum by rounding off at least four more transactions by the end of the current fiscal. The government is working on finalising the transactions of BEMLPawan HansShipping Corporation of India and Neelanchal Ispat by the end of March.

Speaking at a webinar on privatisation by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Modi said state-owned companies in four strategic sectors will be kept at bare minimum and that the government is committed to privatising PSUs in all sectors barring four strategic ones.

"With this the government will be aiming to achieve Rs 2.5 trillion investment, we are going ahead with the mantra of monetise and modernise," Modi said.

The government is also likely to introduce the legislative amendments for the privatisation of two public-sector banks in the ongoing winter session of the Parliament. The Central Bank of India and the Indian Overseas Bank are approved to be the two state-run banks to be privatised by the central government.
