As India is under lockdown to curb the spread of Coronavirus there are uncertainties among smartphone makers about resuming manufacturing process.
But there are some good news as Xiaomi has confirmed that Foxconn, the company’s contract manufacturer, has received approval to resume manufacturing at its Andhra Pradesh factory. It has been confirmed by Muralikrishnan B, Chief Operating Officer, Xiaomi India.
The company said that it is expecting that factories will operate at regular capacity by June in India. Xiaomi has already resumed smartphone sales in India through both offline and online channels and will cater to demand in green and orange zones.
It is a major relief for the smartphone giant as almost all of its smartphones sold in India are manufactured locally. Muralikrishnan claims that nearly 99 percent of Xiaomi smartphones sold in India are made in the country.
While Foxconn’s facility at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh has received the approval, there’s no news about the company’s other facility in Sriperumbudur, Chennai. Foxconn’s Chennai unit is also manufacturing the iPhone XR smartphone.
