Google's soon to be launched Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro XL are stepping up with magnetic charging, thanks to a built-in magnetic ring and strong indications of support for the Qi2 wireless standard. This move is expected to launch alongside Google's own Pixelsnap accessory lineup, giving users more ways to customize setup. The Pixel 10 series will be the first US Android flagship to offer this kind of magnet-assisted charging experience.

So how will the magnet charging work?

The magnets help align the charging coils in the phone and the wireless charger, allowing the process to work at optimal efficiency. Misaligned coils can lead to energy loss, thus increasing the time it takes to charge the device.

Wireless charging speeds are expected to be 15W for the Pixel 10 phones although Qi2 wireless charging for these handsets could be as high as 23W. The Pixel 9 series' top wireless charging speed of 21W was achieved with the Google Pixel Stand (2nd Gen). Qi charging for last year's Pixels were capped at 12W.

According to a source, Google will not launch the Pixel 10 Pro Fold alongside the other Pixel 10 series phones. But it will be available for purchase at a later date, on October 9 to be precise. The Pixel Watch 4 and Buds 2a will also be released on the same date.

As for the features and specifications, Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to be slightly thicker and heavier than the current 9 Pro Fold. This is likely because of the larger battery and the inclusion of magnets for Qi2 charging. The upcoming foldable is expected to pack a 5,015 mAh battery, 6.4-inch outer screen, and the Tensor G5 SoC.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be unveiled on August 20 at a Made by Google event.
