Google testing new AI feature that can turn user’s notes into a podcast

Google is experimenting with a feature that will allow users to turn their research notes into an AI-generated podcast. The feature will be available within the AI-powered note-taking app, NotebookLM.

Titled ‘Audio Overview’, the functionality can “summarise material, make connections between topics, and banter back and forth.”

The tech giant has said that the feature can turn any documents into an engaging audio discussion between two AI hosts with a single click. Users can then download these AI-generated conversations.

According to a news source, their reporters got a hands on experience and noted that the conversation was in fact eerily real given the language used and the light-hearted banter between the AI hosts.

Google has emphasized that the feature is not intended to provide a comprehensive or objective view of a topic, but rather a reflection of the user's own notes.

The feature does have some limitations, such as taking several minutes to generate audio and being available only in English. Additionally, like most AI tools, it is not expected to be 100% accurate.

To try out the feature, users can open a notebook in NotebookLM, scroll to the bottom to find the Notebook guide, and click 'Load' under the 'Audio Overview' section.

NotebookLM is already powered by the Gemini 1.5 Pro for summarising research and was expanded to more than 200 countries earlier this year.
