HBO spent over $30 million on the pilot for failed Game of Thrones prequel

According to the new book Tinderbox: HBO's Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers, by James Andrew Miller, HBO spent a massive $30 million on the pilot for cancelled 'Game of Thrones' prequel 'The Long Night'.

The pilot episode of the unreleased 'Game of Thrones' prequel was reportedly filmed in Northern Ireland in 2019, but was ultimately put off.

However, HBO did announce that a separate series, the upcoming 'Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon', had been given the greenlight. Fans of the original series will soon have "House of the Dragon" to look forward to, the prequel series that takes place hundreds of years before the events of "Game of Thrones."
